Former New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu (R) said he has “never heard of anything” like the Republican National Committee’s plan to charge Republican candidates to attend a midterm convention.

Next week at President Donald Trump’s command, the Republican Party is holding a highly unusual midterm convention in Dallas meant to boost the GOP’s chance in November.
But they’re having a challenge defending the candidate in Michigan, like maybe some Republicans are having heartache defending the candidate. It will be held on Sept. 9 and Sept. 10, with the keynotes on those nights delivered by Vice President JD Vance and Trump, respectively. Their speeches are scheduled to occur during the first two games of the NFL regular season.

Trump, who is historically unpopular across many polls, has reportedly told aides he wants to make the midterms a referendum on his record.
On Wednesday’s installment of The Source, host Kaitlan Collins asked Sununu about the Republican National Committee suggesting a minimum donation of $25,000 from candidates. That, as well as Trump’s unpopularity, has prompted some GOP candidates to balk at the invitation.
“Some Republicans aren’t going, or they’re unhappy because they have to pay $25,000 per House member, per Republican going to attend,” Collins said. “Is that normal from your experience?
“I’ve never heard of anything like that myself,” Sununu replied. “No, I mean, I don’t know. I don’t know. I haven’t even heard on the Democrat side.
“[Tennessee Congressman] Tim Burchett said he got a bill for $25k,” Collins said,
“He’s supposed to be raising money for the candidates,” he responded.
Historically, the incumbent president’s party loses seats in midterm elections. Since World War II, the only two midterm years in which the incumbent president’s party gained seats in the House were 1998 and 2002.
