In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Nikolay Mladenov, who serves as the High Representative for Gaza at the US-backed Board of Peace, said that a presentation was held earlier that day during the United Nations General Assembly on how the plan for Gaza is moving from preparation to implementation.
“A year ago, there was neither a plan nor a roadmap for disarmament, nor a transitional Palestinian committee ready to assume responsibility in Gaza. Today, we have all three,” Mladenov wrote.
He noted that the Board of Peace had presented a six-month reconstruction programme. It includes “66 projects worth approximately USD 2.45 billion, ready to begin as soon as funding and access are available,” he added.
“Housing, water, hospitals, schools, electricity, roads, jobs. They will be built by companies and engineers from Gaza itself. This is not a wish list, but a plan,” the former Bulgarian foreign minister said.
“The commitments made in Sharm el-Sheikh must be honored by all sides. Humanitarian access must be improved, especially now, with winter approaching. The international stabilization forces and the new Palestinian police must be deployed, the factions’ weapons must be collected and destroyed, and reconstruction of the devastation must begin,“ the post reads.
“None of this will be easy. No one has ever attempted what we are doing in Gaza. There will be many obstacles and weeks when progress will be slow. A year ago, all of this was merely ideas. Today, we have a plan backed by resources, agreements and people ready to implement it,” Mladenov wrote.
