Balgarianovinite.com Haskovo Regional Governor Todor Ivanov has convened an extraordinary online meeting of the Regional Epizootic Commission due to the second outbreak of sheep and goat pox in the village of Tyanevo, Southern Bulgaria, the Regional Administration reported on Tuesday.
The new outbreak was identified in a registered livestock facility, where 137 sheep are raised. The facility is located about 50 metres from another affected facility in the village with 65 animals, where the disease was detected at the end of July 2026.
The meeting discussed the necessary actions and the implementation of anti-epizootic measures. The new order leaves the designated protection and surveillance zones unchanged. Restrictions on the movement of sheep and goats, their keeping in a stable, animal census and enhanced official veterinary control continue.
A 5-kilometre protection zone has been established around the outbreak, encompassing the villages of Tyanevo, Dryanovo, and Ovcharovo. A 20-kilometre surveillance zone was established around the outbreak.
Measures were taken to control and eradicate the disease in accordance with the provisions of European and national legislation. Livestock owners may be eligible for compensation under the Veterinary Practices Act.
The disease poses no danger to humans, but its spread can cause significant economic damage.
