Balgarianovinite.com The Horovodna Kitka folk dance troupe from Paphos, Cyprus, led by director Didi Toneva, will participate for the second time in the travelling festival Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance, which will take place at BMW Park in Munich May 15-17.
For our stage performance, we will present the Thracian dance “Nishkata Na Naroda” [The Thread of the People] choreographed by Veronika Vasileva and Angel Rakov. The dance embodies the characteristic rhythm, energy, and beauty of the Thracian folklore region. “We will be wearing the authentic costumes of the Thracian society Yani Popov from Sozopol,” director Didi Toneva told BTA.
“With this dance, we want to show the connection between generations. It awakens nostalgia, and the square becomes a place where time does not divide but brings people together for a living celebration of tradition and life,” she said.
Toneva noted that the group is proud to be the largest on the island of Cyprus – 48 children and adults ranging in age from 5 to 67 participate, united by their love of Bulgarian folklore.
The director organizes annual charity events and celebrations in Paphos. The ensemble participates in numerous concerts, gatherings, and festivals, both locally and in Bulgaria.
“We are delighted by the growing interest in our ensemble and are happy that more and more people want to become part of our big family, united by friendship, traditions, and a love for Bulgarian folklore,” Toneva said.
She added that it is an honour for the group to be part of this large-scale event, which brings together Bulgarian groups from all over the world and preserves the spirit of Bulgarian traditions beyond the borders of our homeland.
“We wish all participants success and look forward to meeting them at the main square,” the director added.
The travelling festival Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance is organized by and for amateur folklore ensembles performing outside Bulgaria. The initiative was launched by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted both the first edition in 2015 and the tenth edition in 2025. More than 100 dance ensembles and over 4,000 guests are expected at the 11th edition in Munich in May. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is the official media partner of the event and will present all participants.
