Balgarianovinite.com The price of natural gas in Bulgaria will increase by 5.5% in September compared with August to EUR 41.60/MWh, the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) decided here on Monday. The approved price excludes access, transmission, excise duty and VAT. At this price, Bulgargaz will sell natural gas to end suppliers and entities licensed for heat production and transmission, the energy regulator said on Monday.
Despite the increase, Bulgarian consumers will pay nearly EUR 25/MWh less than international prices, thanks to the competitive price of Azerbaijani gas supplied to Bulgaria. September contracts on European gas exchanges were trading on Monday at around EUR 66.98-68.92/MWh. Gas prices are expected to remain high throughout the autumn amid concerns about shortages in filling gas storage facilities and risks to liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Europe’s gas storage facilities are currently estimated to be 62-63% full, the lowest level for this period in several years, the EWRC said.
The September price mix includes quantities of natural gas supplied under the long-term contract with Azerbaijan, as well as liquefied natural gas purchased under contracts with traders following an organized tender.
The approved September price includes the component “natural gas price at the entry point of the gas transmission networks,” the component for the “public supply” activity, and a component covering Bulgargaz’s costs for storing quantities in the Chiren underground gas storage facility in fulfilment of its obligations under the Emergency Action Plan.
The price at which Bulgargaz sells natural gas in August is EUR 39.43/MWh.
