More than 178,000 households in Ukraine’s Odesa region are without electricity as a result of an overnight attack, the local branch of Ukrainian electricity operator DTEK reported on Telegram.
“The large-scale attack caused emergency power outages in Odesa and the Odesa district, leaving 178,700 households without electricity. As a result of the attack, emergency power outages are affecting the Peresypskyi and Prymorskyi districts of Odesa,” DTEK said.
“So far, crews have managed to restore electricity to more than 60,000 families, while 178,700 households are still without power,” the statement said.
Energy workers warned of possible disruptions to the operation of critical infrastructure and electric transport. Restoration works are ongoing.
According to Odesa Regional Governor Oleh Kiper, Russia carried out strikes on the center of Odesa on the afternoon of September 18. An 11-story building was hit. Ten people were injured, including two rescuers.
More than 150,000 Bulgarians live in the Odesa region, making them the third-largest ethnic group according to Ukraine’s latest official census. Around 50,000–60,000 Bulgarians live in the city of Odesa itself. The largest concentrations of the Bulgarian population are in the Bolhrad, Izmail, and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
