Balgarianovinite.com Bulgarian Presidennt Iliana Iotova visited 131st Peyo Yavorov Primary School in Yerevan on Sunday. The school, named after the renowned Bulgarian poet in 1966, welcomed the head of State with a performance by students of “My Country, My Bulgaria” and Bulgarian folk dances.
In her address to teachers and students, Iotova said: “One of Bulgaria’s greatest poets, Yavorov, wrote the most beautiful love poems, but also the poem ‘Armenians,’ dedicated to the Armenian martyrdom in the Ottoman Empire. There is no heart that is not moved by the power of his verses.” She highlighted the commonalities in the history of martyrdom and heroism shared by the Bulgarian and Armenian peoples, who fought for their freedom. “What is most valuable is that so many children and young people pass through this school, imbued with Yavorov’s ideas, who know who Peyo Yavorov is, who know what Bulgaria is,” the President underscored.
The head of State praised the teachers for teaching the students to sing in Bulgarian without an accent, and thanked them for instilling in the children a love for Bulgaria. “The children sing with the same enthusiasm, with the same feeling, as their Bulgarian friends,” Iotova noted.
She also said that a sixth Armenian school is set to open in Bulgaria. In her words, these schools teach the Armenian language, history, and culture so that the children may know their ancestral homeland and preserve their traditions.
President Iotova is visiting the Armenian capital to participate in the 8th European Political Community Summit on Monday.
On her delegation, among others, is BTA Director General Kiril Valchev. During the visit to 131st Peyo Yavorov Primary School, he was accompanied by ARMENPRESS News Agency Director Narine Nazaryan, the Armenian news agency reported. BTA and ARMENPRESS have a long history of cooperation, which began in 2004 and was renewed in 2022 with the signing of a new agreement in Sofia, the press release recalls.
