At an election rally in Lovech, presidential candidate Andrey Gurov said that as such he cannot promise much, but he can make a commitment on a few things. “I will work for Bulgaria’s security and independence,” Gurov said. He added that he would always state clearly what the decisions are and who pays the price. He would work to ensure that the rules apply equally to everyone; he would be a president for all Bulgarian citizens, whether they come from Sofia, Gabrovo, Lovech or any corner of the country, he said.
“This is a commitment that I, Georgi Kandev and the team of the caretaker government, who backed us, can make, because we believe that when problems are called by their proper names, when we are prepared to take responsibility and work genuinely in the interests of Bulgarian citizens, we can solve the problems and we can all truly have the city and the country that we know we deserve,” Gurov added.
In his words, the role of the president is to act as a balancing factor, supporting the government when it is performing well, but also making it clear that something is wrong when the majority makes the wrong decisions or imposes them by force.
Yordan Zhechev, Nikolay Naydenov and Ivelin Popov, who are part of Gurov and Kandev’s nomination committee, addressed the supporters of the candidates in Lovech.
The meeting continued with Gurov’s responses to questions from the audience.
