Presidential candidate Iliana Iotova and vice-presidential candidate Kiril Valchev discussed foreign policy and education with students and university lecturers in Sofia on Tuesday.
“When I say I want to be Bulgaria’s president for peace, I have my arguments, reasons and proposals. The war in Ukraine has long since spread beyond the territory of the two countries, Russia and Ukraine. It is in our Black Sea. My entire political career has been devoted to ensuring that Bulgaria has a strong voice of its own,” Iotova said. She added that in recent months Bulgaria had finally developed a strong, well-reasoned foreign policy that was winning more allies and making the country’s positions heard more clearly in the European Union. This would continue, she said. Iotova called for a European peace proposal setting out concrete terms, saying no such proposal had yet been put forward.
Iotova said she and Valchev firmly opposed the dismissive attitudes towards Bulgarian education that had been promoted for years. The country’s education system had produced many accomplished scientists who had established successful companies and platforms, she said, citing Bulgarian company EnduroSat and the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT).
Valchev outlined ideas for a national youth strategy and an advisory council on youth strategies. The aim was to invite young people from Bulgaria to share their vision of the country’s future, he said.
MPs from Progressive Bulgaria also attended the meeting.
