A protest over the Government’s response to drone attacks on merchant ships in the Black Sea is scheduled to take place outside the President’s Office in Sofia Tuesday evening. It was organized on social media under the slogan “Your ‘peace’ is capitulation! Your ‘diplomacy’ is isolation! How much longer will we pretend not to see what is happening on our doorstep?”
The organisers argue that security cannot be guaranteed by wishful thinking and that peace cannot be preserved by yielding to aggression. They say the state has a duty to protect its citizens.
“Merchant ships are being attacked and sinking in the Black Sea. People are dying. Russian drones are coming dangerously close to our borders. Military depots are exploding and critical infrastructure is being attacked. Meanwhile, here at home, we are being lulled into a false sense of security with promises that ‘good relations’ with the aggressor will save us,” the organizers write in the event they have created on Facebook.
Among the organizers are politicians and public figures.
