Right-wing radio host Jesse Kelly said he “can’t believe” President Donald Trump chose to launch the Iran war before the 2026 midterms, with the lingering conflict and surging gas prices now threatening to put the entire MAGA movement “in jeopardy.”
Kelly said in a Wednesday post on X that he remains baffled by the decision.
“I still can’t believe we started a war that raised gas prices in a midterm election year. I almost chuckle when I think about the absurdity of that decision,” Kelly posted. “Just put the whole movement in jeopardy. Lol! What a waste.”
His criticism stands out, considering The Jesse Kelly Show is one of the biggest conservative radio shows around, with the program being syndicated by Premiere Networks in more than 200 markets.
Despite the critique, Kelly is still firmly on the Trump Train, thanks in large part to the president’s crackdown on illegal immigration.
Kelly said in August he was enjoying Trump’s second term much more because, “Trump 2.0 is the best immigration president by a MILE in my entire 45 years on this planet. No one else even comes close.”
But he clearly doesn’t love the ongoing war.
Kelly has posted several times about how he is not a fan of it, including when he called the war a “colossal mistake” in June and a “catastrophic unforced error” a month later.
Some of his followers seemed irked by Kelly voicing his displeasure again, leading to some back-and-forth squabbling.
“It’s called principles,” one X user responded. “What’s more important, a non-nuke Iran or the midterms?”
Kelly replied the prospect of Democrats regaining control of Congress is “infinitely more dangerous than anything Iran is doing, boy.”
And when another user asked if he was now “anti-Trump,” Kelly said that was definitely not the case; he just doesn’t “want us doing stupid things that hand the country back to the communists.”
In related news, Vice President JD Vance was pressed on the war during a Tuesday interview at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles.
Vance said he understood some Americans, and MAGA voters in particular, are frustrated by the war, especially since Trump vowed there would be no new foreign conflicts during his 2024 campaign. But he said the war was justified because it was imperative Iran never develops a nuclear weapon.
“I think the president is taking the responsible course of action — he’s protecting America’s assets in the region, while also ensuring that world energy markets continue to get a supply of oil and natural gas,” Vance said.
