Balgarianovinite.com Romanian tourists continue to choose the Bulgarian Black Sea coast for their summer holidays, local publications Wall-Street and HotNews wrote in reports on the topic on Wednesday. They cite geographical proximity, transport links and the wide range of accommodation options as the main reasons.
Analysts, however, note a growing tendency among Romanian tourists to book later and compare destinations before finalising their travel plans. Inflation in Romania is one of the reasons why Bulgaria’s northern neighbours are taking a more cautious approach to balancing costs and services.
Nevertheless, expectations for the summer season in Bulgaria remain positive. One of the publications quoted a representative of a major hotel group on the northern Bulgarian Black Sea coast, who reported that arrivals from Romania have increased by approximately 10–12% compared with last year.
Bulgaria recorded nearly 1 million registrations of Romanian tourists in accommodation establishments in 2025, a record level and 8.5% higher than in 2024, according to data from the National Statistical Institute. For years, a significant share of Romanians’ holiday budgets has not remained on the Romanian coast but has crossed the border to Golden Sands, Albena, Sunny Beach, Nessebar and Balchik, the media outlets noted.
A shift is being observed in the profile of Romanian tourists choosing Bulgaria. Families with children remain the dominant group, but data show growing interest from couples seeking experiences such as spa and wellness breaks, premium all-inclusive packages and conference tourism.
Hotels along the Bulgarian coastline are increasingly adapting their services to Romanian clients, including by employing staff who speak the language and have knowledge of the neighbouring country.
