Russian forces struck a multi-storey residential building in a densely populated area of Odesa around midday Sunday, while launching a large-scale overnight drone attack on energy facilities in the wider region, Ukrainian officials said.
The strike on the residential building injured a 13-year-old girl, Serhii Lysak, head of the Odesa City Military Administration, said on Telegram. The attack sparked a fire on the roof and damaged apartments on the top floor. Emergency services were working to deal with the aftermath.
Separately, Russian drones targeted energy infrastructure across Odesa Region overnight, leaving around 24,000 households in different parts of the region without electricity, Odesa Regional Military Administration head Oleh Kiper said on Telegram. Emergency crews were continuing repair work, he added.
More than 150,000 Bulgarians live in the Odesa region, making them the third-largest ethnic group according to Ukraine’s latest official census. Some 50,000–60,000 Bulgarians live in the city of Odesa itself. The largest compact Bulgarian communities are concentrated in the Bolhrad, Izmail and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
