Sofia Airport operator SOF Connect launched preliminary construction works for Terminal 3 at a ceremony here on Friday. The ceremony was attended by SOF Connect CEO Jesus Caballero, Glavbolgarstroy Holding CEO Emil Angelov, Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev, as well as Bulgarian snowboarders Tervel Zamfirov and his sister Malena Zamfirova, the marketing faces of the Terminal 3 project.
With an investment of more than EUR 7 million, the work includes a new transport hub, redevelopment of the area in front of Terminal 2, and relocation of underground infrastructure. The new transport hub will provide 14 bus bays, while improvements to Terminal 2’s forecourt will include an accessible ramp and a relocated taxi rank to improve airport access and traffic flow during construction.
Caballero emphasized that Terminal 3 would increase airport capacity, support Bulgaria’s aviation industry and help attract new airlines and routes, adding that these works are expected to be completed by the end of March 2027.
Terziev described Terminal 3 as “more than just an airport expansion”, calling it a symbol of the opportunity for Bulgarians who have left the country to return, and for foreign visitors to discover the beauty and opportunities of Sofia and Bulgaria. He thanked SOF Connect for the successful partnership and expressed hope that it would continue.
