A group of active-duty U.S. soldiers who were seriously injured in the Iran war claim the Pentagon has failed its warfighters by denying them care — or wrapping them up in red tape for routine results, the Associated Press reported exclusively on Tuesday.

The AP spoke to nine troops on the record, each of whom was injured in a deadly Iranian drone strike in Port Shuaiba, Kuwait on March 1, the day after the conflict began.
One of those troops was Army Lt. Col. Arturo Lincón, who was nearly killed by shrapnel in the attack.

As the AP reported:
Lincón’s wounds included a damaged left vertebral artery, which supplies blood to the brain, and put him at risk for a stroke. That was not considered by the Army to be serious enough to be admitted to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, a major U.S. military facility, even though Lincón said a nurse there marveled that he was alive.
“I was just kind of on my own, at least it felt like that,” Lincón, who previously served in Iraq and Afghanistan, told the AP.
Another service member, Maj. Stephen Ramsbottom, described waiting more than four months to receive his MRI results after he had shrapnel removed from his head.
“I’ve had to build my own case for everything,” Ramsbottom told the AP. “It’s very frustrating.”
Chief Warrant Officer 4 Rodney Bearman, who also suffered severe shrapnel injuries, said a medical evac was not possible because of Iranian drones and missiles in the area, so he and others were forced to stay at the homes of U.S. government employees.

It wasn’t until 10 days later that Bearman could get onto a cargo plane to Landstuhl, where he learned of another critical military blunder.
Bearman was told he wasn’t listed as wounded in combat and would therefore not be hospitalized at Landstuhl, according to the AP. Instead, he was sent to the barracks, and told to seek outpatient care.
“Never did I think that if I was wounded that these things would happen,” Bearman told the AP. “Some sacred trust that I thought would never be broken was broken.”
Neither the Army, the Pentagon, nor the Army’s Human Resources Command responded to requests for comment from the AP.
