Balgarianovinite.com In a bTV interview on Sunday, National Assembly Deputy Chair Ivan Angelov of Progressive Bulgaria said that the adoption of the 2026 state budget brings an end to the crisis in public finance management and, in one way or another, weakens the opposition by depriving it of the opportunity to blame the lack of an adopted budget for its shortcomings.
According to him, this is the budget that can guarantee security and stability for Bulgarian citizens in the future, despite all the difficulties and challenges facing the country both domestically and internationally.
Commenting on the project for building a gunpowder and ammunition plant by Rheinmetall in Bulgaria, Angelov said that the signals so far have not been particularly promising. He criticized the lack of concrete steps toward implementing the project. He said that it had initially been claimed that funding for the project had been allocated in the budget, but it subsequently turned out that this was not the case. He also pointed out that no joint venture between Rheinmetall and VMZ-Sopot had been established and that the proposed site did not meet the necessary requirements and was unsuitable. Angelov further said that no public procurement procedures had been launched, while negotiations were reportedly under way with companies such as Glavbolgarstroy and Hidrostroy. All these developments, he concluded, were far from encouraging.
Commenting on Iliana Iotova’s candidacy for president, Angelov said that she was clearly handling her current responsibilities and duties in the best possible way, describing her as a dignified and strong candidate. He added that an official decision by the political formation on its specific policies regarding the upcoming presidential election was expected soon.
Commenting on the stationing of US aircraft at Bezmer Air Base, Angelov said that people had the right to be concerned. At the same time, he added, it was the authorities’ role to explain to the public that there was no real cause for concern. According to him, by allowing the aircraft to be stationed at the military air base in Bezmer, Bulgaria was sending a clear signal to its international partners that it was a predictable and reliable member of the strategic alliances to which it belonged, and that it intended to honour its international treaties. Angelov added that Bulgaria was not a hostile country toward Iran and had informed Tehran that it was not taking any position against Iran and was not participating in the military conflict.
