The View cohost Sunny Hostin received a phone call from fellow Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority member Cynthia Erivo about her take on the Cornell sexual assault case against the school and at least seven of its former and present students.
Hostin sat down with The View’s producer Brian Teta Tuesday and explained:
ABC News Mysteriously Deletes Report on Trump Sons’ ‘$6B’ Business Dealings 2026
Cynthia Erivo is a good friend of mine, and that may be surprising to people, but we’re both in the same sorority. We’ve spent a lot of time together, and I love her , and she loves me. And she called me from Paris, and she’s actually working on a movie about consent and sexual assault.
And she had only seen the clip, and she called me and said, ‘Sis, I know you, and I know your heart, and I know your life’s work has been about protecting women and children, but the clip that I saw doesn’t reflect who you are’. And she then said, ‘You are such a blunt. I’m a blunt person, and you are a blunt person, and that’s why we get along so well because we cut the BS out when we talk to each other and with each other.’
Erivo also told Hostin she’s learned to “give her opinion in a way” that people “can receive it.”
“And she said that I need to… instead of leading with the law, I need to lead with empathy so that people can receive the message about the law,” Hostin added.
On September 30, Hostin told The View audience that the Jane Doe in the Cornell case “allowed other boys and consented to other boys snorting ketamine off of her body, and under New York law, voluntary intoxication or drug use that merely impairs judgment does not legally constitution an inability to consent to sexual activity.”
“I say all that to say the pictures of these young men who have not been charged, not been adjudicated, are being plastered all over the internet, I think people are reporting this story inaccurately,” she added.
