President Donald Trump vowed to fire any of his outside consultants who may have conflicts, after a scathing report in The New York Times revealed two of the president’s top advisors were working for a regional pro-Russian government in the Balkans.

Chris LaCivita, who served as a senior advisor on Trump’s 2024 campaign, and longtime GOP political consultant James Blair were paid a hefty sum to travel to the tiny region of Bosnia and Herzegovina known as Republika Srpska, according to The Times:
Mr. Blair and Mr. LaCivita were paid hundreds of thousands of dollars each through a Washington-based law firm that was retained by Republika Srpska’s government to provide counsel on voting issues, according to two of the people familiar with the engagement. They said the work was for the government and not the nationalist party that controls it, though they are essentially one and the same.

The outlet cited four sources who asked for anonymity, who confirmed the trip to the self-governing territory ahead of the region’s elections.
The Tuesday report noted Republika Srpska had aligned itself with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and had “spent heavily” to woo Trump and those aligned with him.
By Wednesday, Trump offered an apparent response to the article via Truth Social:
Chris LaCivita and James Blair are outside consultants. They do not work for me, other than as outside consultants. They most likely have numerous clients, but for that, you would have to ask them. They are allowed to do work for others, just like all consultants in Washington, D.C. I do not have any idea who else they work for but will, on reflection, ask them and, if there’s a conflict, I will terminate them, immediately! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP
LaCivita and Blair could not immediately be reached for comment.
