The Varna Administrative Court has ordered expert assessments in two of the cases concerning the removal of buildings in the Baba Alino area, the court’s press service said.
The court heard in open sessions three of the 12 cases brought by Forest Club Varna and Venedikt 02 against orders by the Mayor of Varna Municipality for the removal of 12 multi-family residential buildings containing more than 40 apartments.
In the two cases, the court requested evidence from Primorski District and the Varna Regional Prosecution Office concerning the construction documents, construction work and the period during which the construction was carried out. The court also ordered forensic technical expert assessments. Hearings in the two cases have been adjourned until early November.
The third case has been adjourned until late November.
The Baba Alino case first came to public attention in 2025 following investigations by the anti-corruption platform BIRD and reports from Vazrazhdane and local activists, who raised concerns about extensive construction on forest land near the Golden Sands resort. The controversy centres on 104 residential buildings erected across approximately 10 hectares in the Baba Alino area in Varna, allegedly without valid permits and with the apparent failure – or possible complicity – of several institutions responsible for oversight. The project is owned by Ukrainian development group KYB and several of its officials were briefly arrested but it has denied any wrongdoing.
