Balgarianovinite.com Varna is hosting the 41st Congress of the International Federation of Ex-Libris Societies (FISAE) on September 1-6. This is the first time the forum has been held in Bulgaria, according to the organizers, the Jordan Petkov Art Foundation.
The congress brings together artists, collectors, gallery owners, art managers and representatives of exlibris societies and organizations. Its programme features exhibitions, lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and meetings between artists and collectors. A key objective of the forum is to facilitate the exchange of ideas, artistic approaches and professional experience in graphic art.
The programme centres on an International Exlibris Competition, which attracted more than 300 artists from 35 countries, who submitted graphic works created using a range of classical and contemporary techniques.
A special prize has been established this year for an exlibris dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Varna Summer International Music Festival, which is celebrating its centenary in 2026.
The winners will be announced on September 2 at the Graffit Gallery, where the competition catalogue and selected works will be presented. The exhibition will be open to visitors until September 15.
On September 3, an exhibition of exlibris from the collection of the Lyuben Karavelov Regional Library in Ruse will open at Largo Art Gallery. The collection will be presented to congress participants, including through VR technology, which will provide interactive access to part of the history and contents of the collection, the organizers said.
The bid to host the congress in Varna was won by the Jordan Petkov Art Foundation in competition with the Greek Ex Libris Federation’s bid for Athens. The decision was taken at the previous congress in Palma de Mallorca in 2024. The first FISAE congress was held in Austria in 1953.
The 41st FISAE Congress is being held with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and the Culture Fund of Varna Municipality, in partnership with the Union of Bulgarian Artists, the Varna Artists’ Association, the Gallery of Graphic Art – Varna and the Lyuben Karavelov Regional Library in Ruse.
