Balgarianovinite.com Sofia and Vitosha Mountain will host the 2026 European Downhill Mountain Bike Championships. The competition will take place from August 14 to 16, the organizers said.
The championship is being organized jointly by the Bulgarian Cycling Federation (BCF) and the Union Europeenne de Cyclisme (UEC), with Vitosha Ski AD serving as host and the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Sofia Municipality and the Sofia – European Capital of Sport Foundation.
The races will be held on the Vitoshko Lale downhill course, located next to the ski slope and chairlift of the same name. The track is steep, highly technical and fast, featuring rock gardens, root sections, rock drops, jumps and challenging corners that will test even Europe’s best-prepared downhill riders.
For the championship, a new final section of the course has been built in line with UEC and Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) requirements for top-tier competitions. The new section will officially open for riding this weekend, giving Bulgarian competitors their first opportunity to test and familiarize themselves with the course ahead of the championship.
Organizers have designated special spectator areas at the most exciting and strategically important sections of the course, where fans will be able to watch jumps and daring downhill runs from just a few metres away.
