At 4:00 p.m., voter turnout nationwide stood at 16.04%, Central Election Commission (CEC) spokesperson Stoyanka Balova announced at a briefing on Sunday’s presidential and vice-presidential elections.
In the previous presidential election in 2021, voter turnout at that time was 24.12%.
Currently, voter turnout is highest in Sofia’s 23rd electoral constituency, 25.09%, and lowest in Kardzhali, 6.77%, Balova announced.
At noon, voter turnout across the country stood at 5.8%, with a total of 385,092 people having cast their ballots, Central Election Commission (CEC) spokesperson Stoyanka Balova told reporters at the commission’s second briefing on the presidential and vice-presidential election.
The highest turnout was recorded in the region of Vidin, 8.12%, while the lowest was in Kardzhali, 2.56%.
The CEC received 13 reports of election violations by noon, four of which concerned the voting process, Balova said. Seven voters refused to use voting machines and requested paper ballots instead, which is not permitted at polling stations with more than 300 voters. Other reports concerned discrepancies involving polling station numbers in voter lists, with three reports related to election campaigning and opinion polls. The remaining complaints concerned machine voting.
As of noon, 20 voting machines across the country had stopped operating due to various technical problems, and voting at the affected polling stations had switched to paper ballots, the CEC spokesperson said.
Four of the machines failed to start at the beginning of election day due to problems with their printers, card readers or power supply. The affected machines were located in the regions of Burgas, Montana, Pazardzhik, Pleven, Ruse and Silistra, as well as Sofia City, where the highest number of failures was recorded. Five machines stopped operating in Sofia’s 23rd electoral constituency, while one machine failed in each of the other affected regions.
