Balgarianovinite.com Commenting on the opening of the largest racing circuit in the Balkans here on Saturday, caretaker Youth and Sports Minister Dimitar Iliev said that there was a pressing need for such a facility. “We have been waiting for something like this for many years, and what has been built is truly fantastic,” he told the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).
He expressed hope that the new facility will attract more tourists to the region. “There is now a place where Bulgarian talents can develop their abilities in a safe and controlled environment,” the Minister added.
Iliev noted that he was grateful to the investors, as the State has so far not managed to build such a facility. The ministry’s contribution has been to register the track as a sports facility, he said, adding that a meeting with the investors is planned to discuss potential future cooperation.
A1 Motor Park, the most modern racing circuit in Eastern Europe and the largest in the Balkans, was inaugurated near Samokov earlier in the day. The track is four kilometers long, with a width of 12 meters on the straights and 15 meters in the corners. It can accommodate between 25,000 and 30,000 spectators.
