Presidential Candidate Gurov Calls for Strong, Transparent Presidential Institution Keeping Executive in Check 2026

It makes sense to have an active, strong, and transparent presidential institution that would keep the Executive in check, said presidential candidate Andrey Gurov at a meeting with citizens here on Friday. “I will work for Bulgaria’s independence and security, and I will fight for a country where the rules apply equally to everyone,” he noted.
He said that the October 25 presidential election is a crucial moment because it offers the opportunity “to say no when we see the country heading in the wrong direction.” In his words, he believes there must be a balance between the branches of government and the principle of checks and balances.
The presidential institution has a term in office that extends beyond the short-term perspective of parliamentary majorities, Gurov went on to say. In his view, it is important for the President to unite society around goals of common interest. Discussions in the Consultative Council on National Security could also focus on issues such as the demographic crisis, education, healthcare, and energy and food security.
Prof. Evelina Kelbecheva, who attended the meeting in support of Gurov, said that the Gurov-Kandev presidential ticket embodies the new political culture that must replace the years of double standards, primitive populism, and constant scandals. Integrity in politics will return thanks to these two worthy individuals, Kelbecheva added. According to her, Gurov is the face of this new political culture and the new moral standards in politics because he has already proven himself.
