An exhibition dedicated to the 80th birth anniversary of the artist Stoyan Tsanev opened at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute (BKI) in Berlin, the Institute said on its Facebook page on October 9. The exhibition comprises a selection of paintings and graphic works that trace the development of Tsanev’s visual language. On display are works spanning over four decades, revealing different stages and directions in his artistic exploration.
The event is presented in partnership with the Petko Zadgorski Art Gallery in Burgas, Burgas Municipality and the Burgas 2032 Foundation.
The exhibition was opened by the Institute’s director, Borislav Petranov. Curator Lyudmila Kutieva presented the various periods and styles of his creative career, as well as some of his better-known paintings, such as the portrait of Hristo Fotev (1974), Metamorphosis (1978) and others.
BKI said: “In Tsanev’s artistic language, minimalism has established itself as a key principle – the reduction of the image to its essence, where every mark and section of colour acquires its own visual and semantic weight.”
The exhibition supports Burgas’s bid to become the European Capital of Culture 2032.
