Presidential and vice-presidential candidates Lachezar Avramov and Ivaylo Drazhev intend to initiate the adoption of a national doctrine, Bulgaria 2050, and hold referendums on key issues concerning the country’s future. The two candidates presented their reasons for running in the October 25 presidential election at a news conference at the Bulgarian News Agency National Press Club in Sofia on Tuesday.
Avramov said they were not professional politicians and were entering the election out of necessity, in what he described as an unequal contest. He said their goal was for the presidential election to be the first step towards “clearing” the political scene of all those who had governed the country so far.
Avramov said he would initiate the adoption of the “Bulgaria 2050” national doctrine, based on three principles: ending “term-limited thinking” and chaos in governance; making the state socially just, with an economy of the future and a restored agricultural sector; and achieving armed neutrality and genuine sovereignty. The presidential candidate also said they would initiate negotiations in Bulgaria aimed at resolving the military conflict in Ukraine.
Drazhev said their candidacy was motivated by widespread public outrage over the way power was exercised in Bulgaria. He said their mission was to help Bulgarians reclaim the power vested in them by the Constitution.
The vice-presidential candidate said they intended to launch procedures, through presidential decrees, for a series of referendums on the most important issues concerning Bulgaria’s future. These would cover not only the country’s participation in the EU, NATO and the euro area, but also concessions involving gold, silver and non-ferrous metals.
