Bulgaria is open to US investment and long-term industrial partnerships, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Investments and Industry Alexander Poulev said in remarks cited by his ministry on Thursday.
During his visit to Baltimore, Maryland, Poulev said Bulgaria had strong political will to deepen ties with the US through long-term partnerships and industrial cooperation.
He opened a bilateral business forum on partnership opportunities for Bulgarian and US companies in defence, space technologies and innovation. He also met Maryland Secretary of Commerce Harry Coker Jr. and visited leading defence companies in the region.
Political stability should translate into concrete business opportunities and a more predictable investment environment, Poulev said. He added that Bulgaria had the financial instruments and political will needed to pursue a long-term vision for industrial development and attract strategic investment.
Defence, space technologies, innovation, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence were identified as key areas for closer bilateral cooperation.
Poulev said cooperation should extend beyond defence to a broader range of high-tech manufacturing and joint projects. He also pointed to the potential of Bulgarian companies in space technologies, unmanned systems and innovative manufacturing as a basis for lasting partnerships with US businesses.
The joint Bulgaria-US declaration on artificial intelligence cooperation created further opportunities for technological cooperation and stronger business ties, Poulev said.
The Bulgarian government was ready to support specific investment plans and joint industrial projects, he said. “We are here to remove administrative obstacles and welcome investors with open doors,” he added.
In Washington, Poulev addressed a forum on the strategic importance of NATO’s southeastern flank and the Black Sea region for European and global security, his ministry said on Thursday. Organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria, the event was held during the annual meeting and exhibition of the Association of the US Army and brought together Bulgarian and US companies.
Poulev is leading a Bulgarian business delegation to the US on the third Defence and Security Business Mission organized by the Chamber. The visit aims to expand partnership opportunities between Bulgarian and US companies in strategic and high-tech sectors. The delegation includes 30 business representatives from 20 companies.
