Bulgaria had the highest average attendance at the 2026 Men’s European Volleyball Championship group stage, the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation said on Friday.
A total of 60 group-stage matches were played across Bulgaria, Italy, Finland and Romania.
According to official European Volleyball Confederation figures, the most attended match of the tournament so far was Bulgaria’s 3-2 victory over Poland in Sofia on September 16, watched by 13,186 spectators.
Bulgaria also had the highest average attendance among all 24 participating teams, with 10,862 spectators per match across its five group-stage fixtures.
A total of 54,310 spectators attended Bulgaria’s matches against North Macedonia, Portugal, Ukraine, Israel and Poland. Finland ranked next, drawing a combined 45,769 spectators to its five matches in Tampere, or an average of 9,154 per match.
All five of Bulgaria’s matches are among the ten best-attended fixtures of EuroVolley 2026. Finland’s match against Belgium in Tampere ranks second with 12,338 spectators, while Bulgaria’s match against Ukraine in Sofia is third with 11,689.
Italy’s best-attended match so far was its opening fixture at Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples, which drew 5,914 spectators. The matches against Slovenia and Czechia in Modena attracted 4,798 and 4,487 spectators, respectively.
In Cluj-Napoca, the largest crowd was recorded for Romania’s 3-2 victory over France, attended by 5,350 spectators. Romania’s matches against Germany and Turkiye drew 4,382 and 3,875 spectators, respectively.
From the knockout stage onwards, EuroVolley 2026 continues in Bulgaria and Italy. Sofia will host four round-of-16 matches on September 19 and 20 and two quarterfinals on September 22. The other round-of-16 and quarterfinal matches will be played in Turin, while Milan will host the semifinals and medal matches.
