Opportunities to strengthen regional cooperation and exchange practical experience in the management, monitoring and control of Black Sea fisheries were discussed at a meeting in Burgas, on the Black Sea, between representatives of Bulgarian, Romanian and international institutions, Bulgaria’s Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture (EAFA) said on Wednesday.
The meeting took place as part of the Annual Stakeholder Conference of the Common Maritime Agenda for the Black Sea (CMA). It was attended by EAFA Executive Director Hristo Panayotov, Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Ivan Paligorov and a Romanian delegation.
Romania was represented by Dragos Simion, President of the National Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture (ANPA), and Gabriel Popescu, Director of the agency’s Maritime Policy and Inspections Directorate. Constantin Petrov, Chair of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean and the Black Sea (GFCM), also took part in the talks.
The participants discussed joint activities involving EAFA, GFCM, ANPA and the Ukrainian fisheries authorities, focusing on the exchange of practical experience and coordination in fisheries management, monitoring and control across the Black Sea region.
Panayotov said EAFA was ready to share its expertise and institutional experience and deepen cooperation with Romania and Ukraine.
The three-day Annual Stakeholder Conference of the Common Maritime Agenda for the Black Sea opened in Burgas on Wednesday. The forum brings together representatives of European and national institutions, academia, businesses and international organizations to discuss opportunities for the development of the Black Sea region.
The conference was officially opened by Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister Ivan Paligorov, European Commission Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) Director-General Charlina Vitcheva, and Burgas Deputy Regional Governors Georgi Madzharov and Veselin Anestiev.
During the forum, participants will exchange experience and good practices and discuss innovative solutions for the future development and sustainable management of the Black Sea.
