Bulgarian conductor Rossen Milanov will take the podium at New York’s Carnegie Hall on October 28, when the Columbus Symphony Orchestra celebrates its 75th anniversary with a concert. The Bulgarian Consulate General in New York announced the event on its Facebook page.
Bass-baritone Davóne Tines will be the soloist. The programme will feature Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, The Mysteries by Gregory Spears and Tines’ Concerto No. 2: ANTHEM.
Milanov, who has an international career, is currently music director of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra and Princeton Symphony Orchestra, and chief conductor of the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra in Ljubljana. Since 2022, he has also served as music director of the Princeton Festival.
He has previously been music director of the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, New Symphony Orchestra Sofia, Symphony in C in New Jersey and Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias in Spain. He worked with The Philadelphia Orchestra for 11 years, conducting more than 200 concerts.
Milanov has guest-conducted orchestras in the United States, Europe, Asia, South America, Australia and New Zealand, and has worked with artists including Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, Joshua Bell, Renée Fleming and Hilary Hahn. His work also encompasses opera and ballet, as well as contemporary music and world premieres.
