Bulgarian visual artist Dilmana Yordanova will take part in the 10th anniversary edition of the international Spotlight Festival, which opens in Bucharest on Friday. She told BTA about her participation.
On Friday evening and throughout the weekend, the Romanian capital will become a vast open-air digital stage, with the iconic Calea Victoriei boulevard transformed into a large interactive gallery of media art and technology. This year’s festival theme is “Playground”, inviting Bucharest residents and visitors to rediscover the urban environment through imagination and innovation. The light show is free of charge and is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors.
Together with Romanian visual artist Ovidiu Eftimie, known as Animatropic, Yordanova will present their video mapping project “Night Walks” on the facade of the National Gambling Office building in Bucharest.
“It is a kind of journey through the city streets, where graffiti, words, drawings and spontaneous expressions reveal the many worlds and emotions that have left their mark on the urban landscape. As these traces come to life, the facade is transformed from familiar architecture into a surreal visual playground where scale, context and logic are reimagined. The city becomes a shared space for imagination, self-expression and new possibilities,” Yordanova told BTA just hours before the event began.
Yordanova has lived and worked in Bucharest for years, establishing herself as a prominent figure on Romania’s contemporary and digital art scene. She is a co-founder of KOTKI visuals and the AVmotional association, initiatives dedicated to creating and promoting new media art.
Her collaboration with Eftimie spans nearly a decade, bringing together their expertise in new media art, motion design and visual technologies. Together, they create multimedia productions for cultural events, video scenography for the performing arts, and 3D video mapping projects, continually exploring the relationship between image, space and technology.
