Burgas will host the first edition of Literature and Place, an international creative writing retreat, on October 24 and 25, Burgas Municipality’s press service said on Thursday.
Initiated by Burgas-born writer Irina Papancheva, the event will explore the city’s literary heritage and places associated with local writers. Participants will include Belgian writer Annelies Verbeke, poet and performer Philip Meersman, Palestinian-born writer Khayri Hamdan, who lives in Bulgaria, and writer and playwright Emil Andreev.
They will meet Burgas writers Zhivka Ivanova and Kerana Angelova, Papancheva and members of the local literary community. The programme will feature two discussions: one on turning personal experience and history into literature, and the other on the writing process.
The retreat will also include a special edition of Papancheva’s Brussels-based Salon de Culture on the theme “Literature and Place”, with a reading by visiting and local authors.
