Conservatives Throw a Flag on Ana Navarro for Seeming to Endorse a Democratic Candidate on The View: ‘How is This Not Electioneering?’ 2026

Conservatives are turning up the heat on ABC over comments made by The View’s Ana Navarro on Monday.

The network has been locked in a dispute with Donald Trump’s Federal Communications Commission over whether the talk show qualified as a news program which is exempt from political equal-time rules. Now, prominent voices on the right are calling out Navarro — claiming she may have run afoul of Federal Election Commission guidelines.

During a discussion of one of Florida’s congressional seats, Navarro expressed her disgust with Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-FL), and seemed to encourage viewers to vote for her opponent. Navarro said:

I had taken for granted this race because, she won two years ago by 20 points. This is a district that Donald Trump won by 15 points. So I thought, okay, no point in paying attention. The polls have her dead even! So, anybody who lives in Coral Gables, in Miami, in Key Biscayne, in downtown Miami, pay attention to that race and go vote, because it’s going to matter. We can actually knock this woman out! There is a great guy running, his name is Elliott Rodriguez (D). Give him a look.

The remarks gained traction on social media when they were posted by Nicholas Fondacaro of the conservative media watchdog NewsBusters:

Heritage Media Fellow Tim Young wrote, “This should be the absolute end of ABC’s license.”

According to the Federal Election Commission, “An electioneering communication is any broadcast, cable or satellite communication that refers to a clearly identified federal candidate, is publicly distributed within 30 days of a primary or 60 days of a general election and is targeted to the relevant electorate.”

The FEC also specifies what does not constitute electioneering communication, and this includes a communication that “[a]ppears in a news story, commentary or editorial that is publicly distributed by broadcast, cable or satellite facilities not owned or controlled by any political party or candidate.”

In April the FCC announced a review of ABC’s broadcast station licenses over The View and Jimmy Kimmel Live! FCC Chair Brendan Carr told Laura Ingraham, “The days that these legacy media broadcasters get to decide what we can say, what we can think, who we can vote for are over.”

ABC filed suit in August alleging the FCC was engaging in a “retaliatory campaign” against the network.
