Jimmy Kimmel marked the anniversary of his brief suspension from ABC by mocking President Donald Trump for effectively taking himself “off the air” after the president banned three major outlets from the White House.
The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host used his Tuesday monologue to seize on the fallout from the administration’s decision to bar CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from White House access, a move that prompted several major TV networks to stop providing live pool coverage of presidential events in protest.
“I mentioned last night that as a result of Trump’s ban on CNN, MS Now, and Politico, the major networks, including Fox, have decided to pull what is known as press pool coverage,” Kimmel said. “The outlets take turns providing a live TV feed of all the president’s events. But then they have suspended that coverage in protest of the ban, which has to drive Trump even crazier than he already is.”
He added: “There’s nothing this man loves more than being on television. And right now, thanks to his own dumb actions, the only camera at the White House is the Ring camera Melania had mounted on her bedroom door to keep him out of it.”
Later, the comedian noted that Wednesday marked exactly a year since he returned to air after his own ban.
ABC temporarily suspended Kimmel’s show in September 2025 amid a political firestorm over remarks he made following the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. FCC chair Brendan Carr publicly criticized Kimmel’s remarks at the time, and major affiliate groups Nexstar and Sinclair stopped airing the program.
ABC restored the show less than a week later, although some affiliates initially continued to preempt it before eventually returning it to their schedules.
Reflecting on the anniversary, the host said: “You know, one year ago tomorrow we came back from when they bullied us off the air. That was a year ago.”
“Never did I imagine that 12 months later, Trump would do the same thing to himself. He has no cameras following him around anymore. There are no microphones to record what he’s saying,” he said.
