Continue the Change has alerted the Anti-Corruption Commission of a potential conflict of interest by Progressive Bulgaria Deputy Floor Leader Slavi Vassilev. The alert cites evidence of a conflict of interest and failure to comply with disclosure requirements, the party’s press office said Tuesday.
Pursuant to the Anti-Corruption Act, the party has referred the matter to the Anti-Corruption Commission with evidence that, according to Continue the Change, justifies an investigation to determine whether there is a conflict of interest involving a person holding a high public office.
Continue the Change noted that on September 23, the National Assembly lifted the temporary ban on the export and intra-Community supply of petroleum products (diesel and aviation fuel). During the plenary session, MP Slavi Vassilev actively participated in the debate with a statement in support of the lift, arguing that the measure would help fuel retailers. In the subsequent vote, he voted “in favor,” the statement reads.
According to information from the Commercial Register and the Register of Non-Profit Legal Entities, which also confirms media reports by BIRD.BG, the commercial company East Petroleum EOOD was established on January 31, 2025, with Slavi Vassilev as the sole owner of the capital and managing director. The company’s scope of business explicitly includes wholesale and retail trade in crude oil and petroleum products, including exports, Continue the Change said.
Article 145 of the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly stipulates that when introducing bills, speaking, or voting in a plenary session or in a parliamentary committee, an MP who has a personal interest in the matter under discussion is required to declare it, Continue the Change recalled. Vassilev should thus explain why, when speaking in defence of lifting the export ban, he did not disclose the fact that his company is engaged in the import and export of petroleum products.
