Customs Agency Director Nikolay Shushkov took part Wednesday in a high-level forum titled “Supporting the EU – Building the Foundations of the EU Customs Authority” in Dublin, the Customs Agency said. The forum focused on establishing the EU Customs Authority. Participants received updates on the process of setting up the new body and exchanged views on its development. Discussions covered the authority’s mission and vision, the structure and rules of procedure of its Management Board, and key performance indicators.
Cooperation, innovation, integrity, professionalism and resilience will be among the core values underpinning the new authority, the Agency said. Its performance will be assessed through the work of the EU Customs Data Hub, effective risk management and successful coordination.
The EU Customs Authority will be headquartered in Lille, France. The regulation establishing the authority was published in September.
Shushkov’s programme continues on Thursday with participation in the Steering Committee of the EU Customs Alliance for Borders, which brings together the heads of EU customs administrations.
