During an official opening ceremony on Friday marking the 20th anniversary of the Bulgarian Federation of Industrial Energy Consumers, Economy Minister Alexander Poulev said that before new investments the State must support the industry that has already chosen Bulgaria as a production base. It accounts for more than 25% of gross value added, while around 250,000 people are directly employed in energy-intensive industries. Behind these jobs are households, families and entire regions, Poulev added.
In his address at the forum, the Minister stressed that the Government is working to provide greater predictability for businesses, more efficient institutions and conditions for attracting new investment and achieving comprehensive economic transformation. “We have a duty to activate every form of support for industry, not merely from the perspective of survival, but to create the platform and tools for growth,” he said.
Poulev added that, with the support of the Energy Minister, funding had been secured from the Electricity System Security Fund for energy-intensive industries.
He said that support for businesses also includes comprehensive administrative reform and reducing regulations. Another government priority is the new legislation on public-private partnerships, which aims to mobilize private capital in combination with EU funds to modernize infrastructure. “We are talking about industrial zones, transport connectivity and, above all, energy infrastructure,” Poulev stressed.
The Minister also highlighted decarbonization and green technologies as strategic priorities. He noted that these were a key focus of all of Bulgaria’s discussions in Europe.
“Our task is to create the conditions for Bulgarian industry to grow, invest and remain competitive,” Poulev said.
