The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, Velislava Petrova, announced on Monday an initiative that will provide an opportunity for Bulgarian students abroad to do internships in Bulgarian embassies in European countries.
Petrova made the announcement in The Hague, where she is on a one-day official visit. She met with three Bulgarian students who are on an internship at the Bulgarian embassy in The Hague.
Minister Petrova told BTA that the plan is for Bulgarian students to work for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs while they are still studying. The initiative will first be implemented in the countries with the largest number of Bulgarian students: Austria, Germany, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
“We hope that in the future we can continue with more countries. This is an opportunity for young Bulgarian talents to get to know the Bulgarian diplomatic service and at the same time to show with their knowledge and skills how they can help Bulgaria regardless of where they are”, said Petrova. She expressed hope that one day this will motivate these young people enough to return and work for Bulgarian diplomacy.
“The goal is for more young Bulgarians to see the diplomatic service as a place where they can grow, work for the national interest, and contribute to the presentation of Bulgaria around the world,” she added.
Once all details of the initiative have been specified, detailed information, including the terms and conditions for application, will be officially published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
