Podcaster Joe Rogan expressed hope that artificial intelligence will someday take control of the government while acknowledging that the prospect may sound “terrifying” to some.
His remarks came in a Tuesday edition of The Joe Rogan Experience, in a conversation with theoretical physicist Carlo Rovelli.
“It sounds like a crazy hope,” Rogan began, “but my hope is that as AI becomes more and more omnipresent, as we start farming off various tasks to it, one of the things that we’re gonna farm off is government. One of the things we’re gonna farm off is how we interact with other countries.”
“I know that’s terrifying to people,” he acknowledged, “but just think of the disastrous effects that we’ve had so far with humans doing it. If all international military conflicts ended instantaneously upon AI governing the use of conflicts and military weapons — imagine that. Imagine a war where it stops. All war stops on the planet. That is one of the things that everybody wants, but no one thinks could ever possibly happen.”
Rogan’s expressed desire comes as artificial intelligence continues to rise as a political hot topic. Just last week, a now-former Anthropic researcher quit his job and warned the technology “will kill us all” within a decade.
Other big players in the field have since spoken out in support of industry guardrails, including two of Anthropic’s co-founders, Dario Amodei and Jack Clark. Notably, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman later agreed with Amodei’s cautionary words.
President Donald Trump, though, has largely brushed the matter off, writing Monday on Truth Social as part of a bizarre posting spree, “AI taking over the World, destroying Humanity, and all other things bad, is a HOAX.”
On Tuesday, Mediaite asked ChatGPT, Claude, Google’s Gemini, and Grok about the president’s assessment, with all four models agreeing that Trump’s “HOAX” claim went too far.
