Katie Couric pushed back on liberal pundit Jennifer Welch and her demands of Democrats if they gain control of Congress, warning her “retribution” isn’t what most people want.
Welch joined Couric on Friday on her Next Question podcast and things wrapped up with Welch demanding ICE be abolished, ICE agents be prosecuted, and numerous other officials be investigated over everything from a 2025 strike on a boat traveling from Venezuela and allegedly carrying drugs to a strike on an Iran school that left more than 100 children dead.

“Merrick Garland dropped the ball on January 6, and I want a Democratic Party that comes back and forcefully repudiates these egregious human rights violations that have happened that we’ve watched. And it’s not about me. These people that have suffered. We have to fight for them,” Welch said.
She called Trump’s current administration the “stuff of nightmares” and called for ICE agents to be prosecuted over the January shooting and killing of Renee Good in Minneapolis.

Democrats, Welch argued, need to step up because former Attorney General Merrick Garland “dropped the ball” investigating the January 6 Capitol riot.
“Merrick Garland dropped the ball on January 6, and I want a Democratic Party that comes back and forcefully repudiates these egregious human rights violations that have happened that we’ve watched. And it’s not about me. These people that have suffered. We have to fight for them,” she said.
“Having said that, I think there is a fine line between retribution and accountability,” Couric told Welch.

She continued:
I can’t speak for Americans, but I imagine that many people are not looking forward to a sort of retribution tour if the Democrats take power. Perhaps they want accountability, but I think they hunger for policies that are going to help them at their kitchen table and at the gas station and give them a sense that they have the possibility of upward mobility. So I worry that too much retribution is not healthy either.
Welch called for Democrats to become the party of “law and order” said they must go “full tilt”:

I think retribution is Democrats being the party of law and order. These crimes I believe are crimes, like killing fishermen off the coast of Venezuela, the school girls, the corruption, the stealing of all of the money that’s going on right now, the stuff that’s going on behind the scenes that I think we just know the tip of the iceberg with Putin and the gas deal and all of this stuff. The Democrats have to learn to walk and chew gum. You gotta do two things at once. You’re gonna have a Justice Department, hopefully in ’28, and it needs to go full tilt. And you know who else thought we shouldn’t focus on retribution? Merrick Garland. And what did that get us? Trump 2.0.
Democrats, she added, have to do “hard things” to go after “fascist criminals.”
“But it’s gonna have to be a balance, I guess is my point. It can’t all be in one bucket,” Couric pushed back again.

“I know. I just really like that bucket, Katie,” Welch said as both laughed.
“You’re out for revenge,” Couric observed.
“My audience, we’re all hyper-fixated on that bucket,” Welch said.
