Kosyo Stoychev is a candidate for vice president in the upcoming elections on October 25. He was put forward by a nomination committee alongside presidential candidate Ivaylo Simeonov, according to a decision by the Central Election Commission (CEC).
Stoychev is a lecturer at St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, a long-standing head of the Department of Regional and Political Geography, and a specialist in economic and social geography, regional development, and geoeconomics, according to information provided by the nomination committee.
He has authored monographs and scientific publications on the global economy, regional transformation, and Bulgaria’s development. He chairs the Bulgarian Association for Regional Studies—the Bulgarian section of the European Regional Science Association (ERSA). In 2026, he is set to lead the organizing committee for the 65th ERSA Congress in Sofia. He has led over 20 scientific and applied projects addressing the transformation of coal-mining regions in Bulgaria, investments, job creation, and other issues.
