Bulgarian football club Levski announced Wednesday that it has abolished fees for players in its U14, U15, U16 and U17 teams competing in the Sofia Championship and the elite youth leagues, saying it will cover their training and development costs regardless of their families’ financial means.
The measure is intended to allow players to develop at the club regardless of their families’ financial means.
Levski also says it will invest in infrastructure and coaching standards and aims to achieve Category 1 academy status under the Bulgarian Football Union’s categorisation system and the Double Pass programme in the 2027/28 season.
While some Bulgarian clubs charge monthly fees for youth football training, others cover the costs for players in their elite youth academies. Hebar Pazardzhik, for example, raised its monthly fee from BGN 50 to BGN 80 in August 2025, citing higher operating costs, while Botev Plovdiv announced in June 2026 that it would abolish fees for children in its elite teams. CSKA 1948 stated in 2024 that players in its youth academy would not pay monthly fees and that the club covers their expenses, including medical examinations and sports equipment.
