If presidential elections had been held in mid-October, Iliana Iotova and running mate Kiril Valchev would have won 43.4% of the votes and Andrey Gurov/Georgi Kandev 28.9%, according to a nationally representative poll by the Myara Agency made public Thursday. The poll was commissioned by the Bulgarian National Radio and was taken between October 8-19 among 1,009 respondents.
Next comes the Vazrazhdane ticket (Kostadin Kostadinov/Petar Volgin) with 10.2%; Ivelin Mihaylov/Yuliana Mateeva with 3.1%; Radostin Vassilev/Krassimir Manov with 2.9%; and Ivan Hristanov/Stoyanka Cherkezova with 1.9%.
Myara says that this is a momentary picture of voter attitudes as of mid-October.
The pollsters say that hundreds of thousands voters are yet to decide how to vote.
For more than three-fourths of the adult population of Bulgaria, the personality of the President matters significantly. 75.4% say the same for the Vice President. 67.8% agree that the powers of the President should be broadened.
