Works of art worth EUR 350,000 were sold at the Autumn Auction of Artmark Bulgaria, which took place on October 21 in Sofia. At the auction, new price records were set for works by Georges Papazov, Georgi Bozhilov-Slona, Andrei Daniel, and Lyuben Zidarov, the auction house’s team said.
Among the top-selling works was Georges Papazov’s painting Cosmic Forms, which sold for EUR 30,000. It was created in the early 1930s and belongs to the artist’s abstract period. The sale price sets a new record for the artist at a public auction, according to Artmark.
A new record was also set for Georgi Bozhilov-Slona, whose painting Abstract Portrait sold for EUR 20,000 after a bidding war. The work Nude by Dimiter Buyukliiski-Michi reached a price of EUR 16,000, with an initial estimate of EUR 5,000. Thus, the final price was more than three times higher than the starting one. Andrei Daniel’s painting Nocturnal Tranquility sold for EUR 12,000, which also represents a personal record for the artist at a public auction.
Among the other results was the sale of Galaxies by Lyuben Zidarov for EUR 7,000. The price of the work more than quadrupled during the auction, setting a new record for the artist, the organizers added.
The season’s auction of classical and modern art presented 189 works by significant Bulgarian artists spanning the early 20th century to the present day. The works were exhibited at the gallery and could be seen before the auction. The rich and diverse selection encompassed the creative explorations of artists from the period, ranging from the genre scenes of Anton Mitov and Ivan Penkov; the landscapes of Zlatyu Boyadzhiev, Eliezer Alshech, and Kiril Petrov; the modernist visions of the internationally acclaimed Georges Papazov, Jules Pascin, and Nikolay Dyulgerov; the distinctive styles of Genko Genkov, Dimitar Kazakov-Neron, Georgi Baev, and Dimitar Kirov-DiKiro; and the commemorative historical scenes of Dimitar Gyudzhenov, to the diverse and colorful worlds of Yoan Leviev, Lyuben Zidarov, Edmond Demirdjian, and many others.
