Balgarianovinite.com Despite the drought, high temperatures and falling water levels in the Danube, 36,610 people in Bulgaria were subject to water restrictions between August 17 and 23, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works (MRDPW) said, citing data from water and sewerage operators.
The figure is more than seven times lower than during the same period last year, when 263,303 people in 16 cities and 295 villages across 86 municipalities were subject to water restrictions.
Water restrictions are currently in place in two cities and 82 villages across 39 municipalities. The largest number of affected customers are in the area served by the Targovishte water utility, where 8,754 people are affected, followed by the Veliko Tarnovo region, with 7,677, and the Montana region, with 4,651. Restrictions affect 4,349 people in Sofia Region and 3,209 in Plovdiv Region, while 2,500 customers are affected in each of Kyustendil and Varna regions.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River reported that water levels in the Bulgarian section had stabilized and risen slightly over the previous 24 hours.
