Over 7,200 Voting Machines Repaired, All 12,800 Expected Ready by Thursday for Presidential Election 2026

More than 7,200 voting machines have already been repaired, and all 12,800 are expected to be ready by Thursday for the October 25 presidential election, Central Election Commission (CEC) Spokesperson Stoyanka Balova said on Tuesday.
She was speaking at the Cargo Partners warehouse where the machines are stored. Journalists were shown the work under way to prepare and install the voting equipment.
Balova explained that the previous composition of the CEC, together with the former Ministry of e-Government (presently the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Transformation), carried out diagnostics in 2025 on machines that had malfunctioned in earlier elections. Those machines had not been repaired until the current public procurement procedure began, when repairs started and the remaining machines were also checked.
“A comprehensive diagnostic check is currently being carried out. We expect all machines to be ready for voting this Thursday,” Balova said.
The CEC is supervising the process, with an expert recording every repair carried out, Balova said. “We know which machine, by serial number, has undergone what repair and what part has been replaced, if necessary,” she added.
