Balgarianovinite.com President Iliana Iotova will meet Continue the Change (CC) parliamentary group representatives regarding their petition to veto the 2026 State Budget Act, later on Tuesday at their request, the President’s Press Secretariat announced in a statement.
CC leader Assen Vassilev and CC parliamentary group chair Nikolay Denkov will hand the petition calling for a veto of the 2026 State Budget Act to Iotova, the party’s press service announced.
More than 32,000 Bulgarian citizens from the country and abroad have already signed in support of Continue the Change’s request for a presidential veto, the party stated.
On July 24, the party called on President Iotova to veto the State Budget Act, as well as the Public Social Insurance Budget Act and the National Health Insurance Fund Budget Act.
“I will examine the opposition’s claims in great detail and with the utmost seriousness,” Iotova said last week, when she announced that she had signed the budgets of the Public Social Insurance and the National Health Insurance Fund.
On July 24, Parliament finally adopted the 2026 State Budget, which sets a deficit of 5.7% of GDP, freezes the minimum wage at EUR 620.20, and sets the ceiling for new government borrowing at EUR 10.1 billion.
