The president has an important role to play in amplifying the voice of Bulgarian citizens, presidential candidate Andrey Gurov said at a meeting with supporters at the Yavorov Hall in Blagoevgrad on Tuesday.
Gurov said the president represented the voice entrusted to the officeholder by citizens through direct, majoritarian elections, and that the president’s role was to make that voice heard more strongly. He explained that he and his vice-presidential running mate, Georgi Kandev, were campaigning close to the people because a president needed to listen to citizens before speaking on their behalf.
Gurov said security, stability and independence were the issues most frequently raised during their campaign visits. He said security encompassed not only the geopolitical situation but also road safety, financial security and other aspects of everyday life.
On stability, he stressed that it did not mean preventing change, but ensuring that the rules applied equally to everyone and that people could rely on predictability. He said the state needed a plan and should not make decisions or steer the country by looking only in the rear-view mirror.
Regarding independence, Gurov said that in the current geopolitical environment, being independent did not mean standing alone, but having the freedom to choose alliances that helped Bulgaria defend its own national interests.
He said he and Kandev would work to the best of their abilities to help make Bulgaria the country its citizens wanted it to be: democratic, European, secure and prosperous.
Blagoevgrad Mayor Metodi Baykushev, former footballer Svetoslav Dyakov and actor Aleksandar Aleksiev voiced their support for the Gurov-Kandev presidential ticket at the meeting.
