MS NOW’s Symone Sanders-Townsend grilled controversial streamer Hasan Piker during his first-ever appearance on the network, bluntly reminding him that he has “never elected anybody”
Sanders-Townsend, once a senior advisor for former President Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign, spoke to Piker alongside the network’s Eugene Daniels for a new episode of their MS NOW podcast, Clock It.
“I used to work campaigns, Hasan, and I have to tell you, if I was a strategist or a consultant or the political director on one of these campaigns, I would absolutely be telling my people to disavow you,” she said emphatically. “I really would, because we wanna win! We wanna win, and so like, if you’re not gonna help people win, distance.”
“That’s a disagreement we have,” Piker responded.
“I’ve elected people, though,” Sanders-Townsend clapped back. “You’ve never elected anybody.”

“You’re absolutely right,” the streamer acknowledged. “But here’s the thing: I’m not expecting these people to hug and kiss me or even defend me vociferously. I’m expecting them to tackle the form, tackle the framework, to expose the hypocrisy. Now, the hypocrisy is not gonna work for MAGA. They’re a cult. We know that.”
Piker continued:
But there are plenty of people in the broad coalition that we have designed — the anti-Trump coalition — that will go, “Oh my God, finally. They are holding a Twitch streamer, a rabble-rouser, to a higher standard than the president of the United States of America.”
This is so insincere. So, when I see Democrats lean into a Republican-backed messaging campaign to show how wonderful they are, to show how, you know, to show how different they are from people like myself, I get increasingly frustrated.
It’s like a messaging bill where Democrats always do this, where they go and they vote against, like, socialism and communism or whatever. They’re still gonna call you “communists.” It doesn’t matter if you voted against, you know, or if you voted for a messaging bill that says, “America will never be a socialist country.” They’re still gonna call you a “socialist.” They called Nancy Pelosi a “communist,” right? They’re insincere, so we should never play by their rules, and we should never play by our opposition’s framing.
That’s what I’m frustrated by. I know I’m in the center of this story, so it seems like I’m just engaging in self-defense, but this is what I’ve been yelling to Democrats for years, far before I became the number one villain of the Republican Party.
Before the footage of the trio’s discussion, Sanders-Townsend noted to viewers, “Eugene and I talked a lot before agreeing to have this conversation. Of course, we’ve been offended by statements Piker has made… And we disagree with him on important political and policy goals. But we believed this was a necessary conversation to have. Hasan Piker is a growing, influential player in progressive politics. And it is our job to question people in the news — no matter how controversial they might be… so we asked Hasan the hard questions.”
