President Donald Trump praised the “great genetics” of Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning and predicted he’ll have a successful future in the NFL like his brothers.
Trump spoke with Outkick’s Clay Travis on Saturday while attending a game between the Texas Longhorns and Tennessee Volunteers. The game was played at Neyland Stadium in Tennessee and the Longhorns won with a 20-17 score.
Asked about Manning, a sibling retired NFL quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Eli Manning, and how he’ll do in the NFL, Trump praised the young athlete’s “genetics” — as he’s done with others in the past.
“Well, he’s already looking really good and I know the brothers and they’re fantastic. They’re fantastic people. Great quarterbacks and great football players. And he’s got great genetics, I would say. If you’re gonna go for genetics, you can’t do much better. And he’s playing pretty well today,” he said.
Trump said he loves attending sporting events as president, arguing it’s “important” for the country.
“I love it. They treat me so well. Today with the applause and everything. I don’t think I have any enemies here,” he said.
The president also applauded the “bipartisanship” he’s seen in Congressional support for the Protect College Sports Act, which would create a federal framework for colleges, allowing the NCAA to better enforce rules. Supporters of the bill have argued that college athletes being able to profit from their name, image, and likeness (NIL), creating far more trade, is creating an unsustainable system.
Trump said the bill has nearly 80 votes ready in the Senate and he expects House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) will be able to get it passed in the House soon.
“I think they are. Mike Johnson’s fantastic and we actually had 78 votes, if you can believe it. That’s really bipartisanship for the first time in awhile. I mean, the alternative is just no good,” he said.
